Potholders Around the World!

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Potholders 2010Recently, a First Savings’ employee traveled to Mexico on a mission trip.  Every morning the group would gather in a type of fellowship hall building (similar to one that they were helping to construct) before beginning the day’s work.  While filling her coffee cup by the kitchen area, she glanced over to a table where the cook pots were stored and there, waiting patiently to be put to use, was a First Savings potholder!  They do get around!

We’re wondering, “Where else our First Savings potholders may have shown up???”  Let us know where you’ve seen one of the potholders, or any other “potholder” story you may have.  If for some reason you don’t have one of our potholders, stop by any of our branch offices and we’ll be happy to give you one!

At the end of the day, $3,860 was raised, plus an additional $1,000 was donated by the First Savings Community Foundation for a grand total of $4,860!  This amount was among the top 100 of the most successful Denim Teams in the country according to Liz Cahill, Vice President of Marketing Communications, Lee Jeans.  Thanks to all the First Savings customers and staff members for helping to find a cure!

What the Insurance Industry Means to the Economy

Insurance Companies…

  • Directly employ nearly 500,000 people contributing $34 billion of payroll.
  • In 2007, paid over $250 billion dollars in insurance claims.
  • Contribute over $15 billion in state premium taxes alone, in addition to the billions more paid in property, payroll, income, etc.

Consider what it would be like if there was no insurance. Not only would hundreds of billions of dollars never enter our economy, but commerce would grind to a halt. Banks would not be interested in loaning money for new homes, autos, or construction projects.

In absence of insurance, many people would lose their jobs, and even if they stayed employed they would have no health or life insurance, and heaven forbid an employee would get hurt on the job. We would all drive at our own risk and air travel would be out of the question.

Is it Time to “Move Your Money”?

There is a ‘grass-roots’ campaign that has been creating a lot of interest on Main St., USA! “Move Your Money”, introduced by The Huffington Post a nationally known news website and blog, takes a look at why you should consider moving your money from the mega banks to Community Financial Institutions. The short video, “Move Your Money”, correlates the recent financial woes created by the Big Banks and Wall Street with the story of George Bailey in the classic movie “It’s A Wonderful Life”.

Support for Haiti

Friday, January 15th, 2010

We’ve been receiving a number of calls asking about the appropriate place to send donations to aid the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. In addition to the Red Cross, www.redcross.org, the Clinton Foundation. http://www.clintonfoundation.org/haitiearthquake/ is also a viable option. Former President Clinton has been appointed Special Envoy to Haiti by the United Nations and addressed the immediate needs of the
Haitian people during an interview on CBS Friday, Jan 15th.
