The customers and employees of First Savings recently joined thousands of companies nationwide to participate in the Lee Denim Day campaign to eradicate breast cancer. During this single day event, First Savings employees and customers were able to raise more than $1700 dollars. These donations coupled with a generous contribution from the First Savings Community Foundation, brought the days total to more than $2780!

For a donation of $5.00 or more, employees were able to don their best denim to the office to show support for the cause. Many generous customers also took part in the fundraising effort by making a donation and filling out a “Denim Pocket” in honor of someone close to them. Donations of this kind are the cornerstone of this valiant movement and First Savings is proud to be a participant.

Lee Denim Day began in 1996 when several Lee employees discovered that they were all impacted by breast cancer in some way. Since then, the Lee Denim Day campaign has grown by leaps and bounds to become the most successful one-day fundraising campaign in the nation.

Thanks to everyone who participated and to First Savings employee, Jennifer Johns, for coordinating the effort.

Win Phillies Tickets during Community Banking Month!

First Savings Bank is joining community bankers throughout the nation during April to celebrate Community Banking Month. “This year’s theme is ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’, and as in the past, we celebrate the contributions that a true community bank can make to the residents and communities they serve,” said Fred Schea, President and CEO of First Savings. “Community Banks were not the cause of the recent economic issues; however, Community Banks have and will continue to play a major role in rejuvenating the economy both locally and globally.”

As part of the month-long celebration, First Savings will be holding a Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, April 16; offer a Customer Appreciation Day on Friday, April 23; and a “Non-Profit Volunteer Fair” on Wednesday, April 28. In addition, a team of First Savings employees will be taking part in the April Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids event and the MS Walk in the Pennridge area as well as continued participation in the Pa. “Adopt-A-Highway” clean-up program.

The Red Cross Blood Drive is open to the public from 9a.m. to 3p.m. and will be held at the Administrative Headquarters of First Savings at 219 S. Ninth Street, Perkasie. For your convenience, appointments can be made by contacting Kim Weichel at 215-453-2317 or kweichel@FirstSavingsOnline.com. Customer Appreciation Day will feature light refreshments at all First Savings Bank Branch Offices. The “Non-Profit Volunteer Fair”, held from 4p.m. until 7p.m. at the Plumsteadville Fire House, 5064 Stump Rd., Plumsteadville, offers an opportunity to bring together organizations seeking volunteers with individuals interested in volunteering their time and talents.

Throughout the month, children can also enter a contest to win a $50 Savings Bond and adults are welcome to enter a drawing for two tickets to a Phillies game.

“We are proud of the communities we serve and we are dedicated to the people and businesses that reside and operate in them,” remarked Schea. “Our employees are committed to the local area and our focus lies in helping our communities to grow and prosper. We’re also extremely proud of the First Savings Community Foundation. During 2009, the Community Foundation donated over $170,000 to more than 65 not-for-profit organizations and charities.”

The need for volunteers to assist non-profit organizations can sometimes feel like a never-ending search and often times those seeking volunteer opportunities aren’t sure how to go about contacting those organizations. To help solve both sides of the volunteer equation, First Savings Bank, in conjunction with their Community Foundation, is sponsoring their third annual “Non-Profit Volunteer Fair” on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. The event will be held at the Plumsteadville Fire House from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

“Non-profit groups and organizations are in need of volunteers to function and they deserve support from residents of the community. In today’s economic climate, the number of volunteers needed in a wide cross-section of organizations is even greater,” noted Fred Schea, President of First Savings. “We hope that this event will enable potential volunteers to learn more about the opportunities that are available from a variety of Non-Profit groups. Last year, 30 non profit organizations participated in the Volunteer Fair and we invite and encourage the public to attend.”

The event also provides the opportunity for area high school students to meet with representatives of Volunteer/Non-Profit groups and learn about possible Community Service opportunities to coordinate with their High School Graduation Project.

The Plumsteadville Fire Company will have a light food concession available for purchase during the event. Pagan, M.D., F.A.C.S., Founding Physician of Pennridge Surgical Associates; Sally Fabian, RN, MSN, Executive Director of Bucks County Health Improvement Partnership.

First Savings Community Foundation recently donated $1,000 to the ‘Volunteer Doctors Care’, Upper Bucks Clinic (VDC-UBC). The clinic, established in 2008 by Dr. Gerrianne Burke of St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital and Dr. John Pagan of Grand View Hospital, in collaboration with Bucks County Health Improvement Partnership, is a means of providing quality health care to low-income uninsured adults in our community who would otherwise be without essential medical care.

Volunteer Doctors Care, Upper Bucks Clinic is funded through the generous donations of members of our community, and uses donated clinic space at the Bucks County Health Department office, located at 261 California Road in Quakertown. A group of more than 25 caring physicians make up the staff of the free clinic, to which the uninsured patients are extremely grateful. More than 900 clinic visits have been made since the clinic’s opening.

Presently, the clinic is open one evening per week, providing primary and specialist medical care, prescriptions as well as social work to ensure patients have access to all available services in the area. Services are available at no cost to adults who reside within the school district areas of Pennridge, Quakertown and Palisades Districts, who have no health insurance with low-income status.

Sally Fabian, Executive Director of the Bucks County Health Improvement Partnership (BCHIP), has stated, “Thank you doesn’t begin to convey our gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the adults who receive professional, compassionate, dignified care as a result of your generosity…”

For more information about Volunteer Doctors Care or to make a tax deductible contribution, please call Sally Fabian at 215-710-5079 or sallyfabian.cares@gmail.com.

Bowl for Kids Sake raises money for Big Brothers Big Sisters and you can help!

It’s that time of year when First Savings participates in Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake. Every year we ask employees of First Savings to both participate and donate to BBBS. This is your chance as a customer of First Savings to participate as well. If you know an employee and would like to bowl with them, have them contact us and we will get you registered. Or if you are unable to participate, but would like to donate money towards this worthwhile cause, you can contact Tad Brannon at Tad.Brannon@firstsavingsonline.com. I need to know by March 5th who would like to participate so I can make sure I have time to get us registered and we have enough lanes reserved for our teams. The teams can be made up of 3-5 people whom can be employees, family members and friends. For each team, we need to raise at least $300.00.

Date: Sunday April 11th
Time: 2:00 – 3:15 pm
Place: Earl Bowl in Earlington

Once you have contacted me expressing your interest in participating, I will send you information and a donation sheet so you can start raising money for this worthwhile cause. Once you have received all of your donations, please send the donation form and the money you have raised to my attention. It would be very helpful if the forms and money can be sent to me no later than Friday, April 2nd. We had 11 employees participate last year and we raised $1,038.00 plus the First Savings Community Foundation matched our funds with an additional $1,000.00. Now, I know with the location being much closer this year, we can get a lot more people involved and raise a lot more money for Big Brothers Big Sisters!

Thank you very much for your time and let’s go BOWLING!

Tad Brannon
